Welcome to Octopus

We aim to produce two shows a year:

  • January – Pantomime Time!
  • June      – Play usually a Comedy or Farce

and some hilarious social evenings!

We perform our shows in the Christ the King Church Hall, Castle Street, in Thornbury and rehearsals are on Sundays and Wednesdays

Octopus was conceived in 1971 as a multi-denominational society which would bring people of the Thornbury area together for a range of social activities – the tentacles of the octopus. Of these tentacles only the drama group remains but this has exceeded all expectations.

Octopus Drama Group’s first pantomime Aladdin was written by a local school teacher, Joe Dunthorne, and performed in December 1971 and over forty other pantomimes have followed. In 1979 our first play Off the Hook was produced and over thirty-five plays have played to virtually full houses ever since. In 1991 our first Music Hall was introduced to Thornbury and has been followed every year since with an October Show and all proceeds, which have totalled over £25,000, have been donated to charities both local and national.
